Máté Vigóczki holds an MA in International Relations from Pázmány Péter Catholic University and an MA in Russian Studies from Eötvös Lóránd University. In 2025 he will defend his dissertation at the doctoral program in Geopolitics at the University of Pécs. Since 2013, his research has focused on Russia, Russian geopolitical thinking and, in this context, the Russian identity, which he believes is essential for understanding the drivers of Moscow’s foreign policy today.
“The fellowship gives me a ‘once in a lifetime’ opportunity that few Hungarian researchers have. I would like to use this opportunity to better understand the mentality and identity of the United States.” – Máté Vigóczki
In addition to his professional work, Máté is especially proud to have been a regular traveler to Russia and the surrounding states for almost a decade, allowing him to gain an extensive understanding of the region through first-hand experiences.
“I believe I have gained a deep insight over the past years into the perception of the countries of NATO’s eastern flank from the mind of the decision-makers of Russia, the main challenger in the region. Now I want to gain an equally deep insight into the perspective of Hungary’s main ally.” – Máté Vigóczki
