The Hudson Institute, together with The Hungary Foundation (HIF), is now accepting applications to its first Visiting Fellowship.
This Visiting Fellowship opportunity is a 10-month fully funded research fellowship at Hudson Institute’s headquarters in Washington, DC, offered to a mid-career Hungarian policy professional with specific areas of interest in protecting religious freedom and promoting democratic sovereignty. The fellowship will run from August 2020 through June 2021.
The visiting fellow will become an active member of Hudson’s Center for Religious Freedom and the Center for Common Culture. The fellow will have the opportunity to refine his/her research skills, to meet with policymakers and subject matter experts, and to participate in coalition building and advocacy efforts.
The fellow will undertake a specific research program in his/her area of interest and publish a report at the end of the fellowship. As an integrated member of Hudson’s research team, the fellow will be invited to participate in workshops, briefings, roundtables, networking opportunities, and other events organized by the Institute.
We invite applications from policy professionals holding Hungarian citizenship with at least four years of relevant work experience, or post-graduate scholars with at least two years of focused research, outstanding academic credentials and English language skills.
The fellowship will provide:
- a $7,500 monthly stipend to cover living expenses in Washington,
- roundtrip air travel to Washington, DC,
- assistance for the fellow’s visa application process,
- mentorship and dedicated funds to support the fellow’s professional development.
In addition to the fellow’s work at the Hudson Institute, he/she will be invited to participate in all HIF-organized professional development programs, networking events and leadership programs held in Washington, DC, and will enjoy staff support from HIF to help the initial onboarding and settling-in process and will be provided mentorship and assistance during their entire stay in the US.

Application Criteria
- Full CV: in English, must include date of birth, citizenship, and full employment history as well as a full publication list
- Research Project Statement: must include full description of the candidate’s specific research project relevant to the Hudson Institute’s ongoing work
- Two Letters of Recommendation: must be tailored to this specific fellowship
- Cover Letter: must include whether the applicant is applying alone or with family members, and any previous research done in the United States
