by | May 22, 2026 | Michael Kovats 300, News

Hungary Foundation is proud to announce the Michael Kováts Drawing Competition for young artists in celebration of the 250th anniversary of the independence of the United States of America.

We invite children in two age categories — ages 3–8 and ages 9–14 — to participate in this exciting and creative challenge.

The goal of the competition is to inspire children to discover, through art and imagination, the remarkable story of Michael (Mihály) Kováts de Fabriczy, the Hungarian hero of the American Revolutionary War and one of the founding figures of the American cavalry tradition. Through drawing and visual storytelling, participants are encouraged to explore themes of bravery, freedom, friendship between nations, and the enduring spirit of heroism.

Competition Theme

Create a drawing inspired by the heroism of Michael Kováts.

We encourage children to use their creativity freely and bring their own artistic vision to life.

Awards

The winning artwork in each age category will receive a special grand prize:

A round-trip flight ticket between Budapest and Philadelphia.

Why Participate?

This competition offers young artists a unique opportunity to:

  • Learn about a shared chapter of Hungarian and American history
  • Express themselves creatively through art
  • Celebrate courage, leadership, and international friendship

We are unable to accept works created with the assistance of AI.
