Annamária Wettstein

Annamária Wettstein is a student at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), pursuing a BSc in International Social and Public Policy with Politics. With a strong passion for politics and international affairs, Annamária’s academic journey is complemented by her extensive extracurricular involvement.

Annamária’s interest in economic and public policy has led her to secure an internship at the esteemed American Enterprise Institute (AEI) in Washington D.C., where she serves as an intern for James Pethokoukis, a renowned AEI scholar. This role allows her to engage in research and analysis, actively contributing to the formulation and communication of innovative policy recommendations.

AEI, a prominent think tank based in Washington, D.C., is known for its research and scholarship on a wide range of economic, political, and social issues. Focusing on advancing free markets and individual liberty, AEI plays a crucial role in shaping policy debates and informing decision-makers. Annamária’s internship at AEI provides her with a unique opportunity to work alongside distinguished experts and gain firsthand experience in the field of economic and public policy.

In addition to her internship at AEI, Annamária has demonstrated exceptional leadership skills and a commitment to making a difference through various endeavors. As the host and co-organizer of a youth conference on the future of Europe in Hungary, she facilitated discussions among young individuals and experts, contributing to proposals presented to the European Parliament.

Prior to her internship at AEI, Annamária gained valuable experience at Case Solvers, a Forbes 30 under 30 startup. As a Student Ambassador, she played a pivotal role in enhancing problem-solving skills for students, contributing to a more innovative and entrepreneurial future for Hungary. Additionally, Annamária’s dedication to sustainable development led her to be selected for the prestigious Sustainable Lifestyles and Education Program, an initiative of the United Nations. As part of this program, she joined a network of young professionals who are passionate about shaping a sustainable future through global cooperation. Through her involvement in these initiatives, Annamária has shown her unwavering commitment to innovation and creating positive change in both the entrepreneurial and sustainable development realms.

She has a strong commitment to widening educational opportunities and supporting underprivileged talents. Her involvement as a Student Ambassador for Widening Participation at LSE showcases her dedication to enabling prospective students from diverse backgrounds to pursue their educational goals. She has been volunteering for various organizations in Hungary for the last three years to improve future prospects of children in impoverished communities.

She is a keen debater and advocates for the free competition of ideas. Hence, she co-founded a debating society in Hungary and won a national debate competition. Annamária’s academic achievements and outstanding leadership have been recognized through the Stipendium Peregrinum Scholarship, which she was awarded to study at the London School of Economics. This prestigious scholarship, valued at more than 45,000 USD, reflects her academic excellence and potential. She was selected from a competitive pool of applicants, competing with students accepted to the 60 best universities worldwide. In recognition of her achievements, Annamária has been interviewed on national television and featured as one of the 25 young talents in Hungary by TalentN in 2022.

With an unwavering dedication to personal and professional growth, Annamária is eager to expand her network and learn from experienced professionals in the hub of politics and international affairs. Her internship at AEI, working closely with James Pethokoukis, offers a remarkable platform for her to deepen her understanding of economic principles, innovation, technological development, and related public policy formulation.
