At this year’s HF Alumni Summit, held once again in the Buda Castle on September 5th, 2025, attendees gathered to reconnect and reflect on the enduring ties between Hungary and the United States.

This annual event serves as a networking opportunity for those eager to contribute to strengthening US-Hungary relations by providing educational and business opportunities for younger generations in both the US and Hungary.

Opening the evening Hungary Foundation Board Member & Former Foreign Minister János Martonyi, whose decades of service have significantly shaped Hungary’s transatlantic relations welcomed guests. János Martonyi reflected on the enduring strength of Hungarian–American relations.

Robert Palladino, U.S. Chargé d’Affaires, who was praised for revitalizing Hungarian-American diplomacy and fostering a spirit of genuine partnership, delivered the evening’s keynote remarks.

Mr. Palladino emphasized the importance of people-to-people ties in strengthening the U.S.–Hungary relationship. He praised Hungary Foundation’s scholarships and fellowships as vital “bridges” connecting the two nations and inspiring the next generation of leaders. Highlighting a renewed spirit of cooperation under new US leadership, he noted increased diplomatic engagement, growing commercial ties—especially in energy—and a shared commitment to peace, security, and democratic values. The speech underscored that this revitalized relationship is not just strategic, but rooted in shared heritage and civilizational values.

The speakers also looked ahead to the U.S. Semiquincentennial in 2026, drawing powerful historical parallels between Hungary’s reformers and America’s founding ideals.

Anna Smith Lacey emphasized the continued relevance of these shared democratic values and announced upcoming alumni initiatives, exploring U.S.-Hungarian historical linkages.

The evening closed with a call to reconnect, collaborate, and look forward to an inspiring year ahead.

It was wonderful to see our community come together once again—strengthening friendships, sparking new ideas, and continuing our shared mission of building bridges across the Atlantic.

Thank you to US Deputy Chief of Mission Caroline Savage and Cultural Attaché Melissa Quartell, as well, for joining us this evening.
